Corpse Reviver #2
I’ve made this drink only 4-5 times, very few people have
requested this cocktail. Also, some bars don’t carry Lillet.
Lillet is a French wine based aperitif and is readily
available.
For this drink, I drew the recipe directly from the
bartender who created this drink in the 1930s Harry Craddock. He was one of the
most famous bartenders in the 1920s and 1930s, Craddock’s The Savoy Cocktail Book, a collection
of 750 cocktails, was first published in 1930, and is still in print today.
According to
Harry Craddock’s recommendation, Corpse Reviver should be drank before 11am or
whenever steam and energy are needed.
As per me no
alcoholic beverages are recommended before 11am.
There are several known versions of the Corpse Reviver. The Corpse Reviver #2 is the more popular
of the corpse revivers, and consists of equal parts of gin your choice, lemon
juice, Cointreau or any other orange liqueur, Lillet, and a dash of absinthe.
Mix all these ingredients and shake over ice in a cocktail shaker and strain
into a chilled cocktail/martini glass. The dash of absinthe can either be added
to the mix before shaking, or you could add a dash of absinthe to the chilled
cocktail glass directly and swirl the glass to coat the glass with absinthe,
giving more flavor to the drink. Garnish with maraschino cherry/orange.
