Distilled Spirits Council is extremely concerned that that the European Union, Canada, Turkey and China have proposed retaliatory tariffs on American distilled products in response to the U.S. decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum.
Among the spirits that the European Union wants to specifically penalize is bourbon whiskey.
Bourbon Whiskey: is an all American whiskey, a barrel aged distilled spirit made primarily from corn.
Bourbon has been distilled since the 18th century.
While bourbon may be made anywhere in the United States, it is strongly associated with the American south, kentucky in particular.
Why specifically bourbon?
Bourbon makes up about two-thirds of the $1.6 billion of U.S exports of distilled spirits.
Bourbon is an all American made product.
Australia
The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States today announced that it is conducting an export promotion in Sydney, Australia June 14, 18, and 19 to showcase some of the finest American distilled spirits products in particular American whiskeys, such as Bourbon, Tennessee Whiskey and American Rye Whiskey
American whiskey is gaining more popularity in Australia due to its renewed interest in cocktail culture.
In 2016 Australia was recognized as the third largest export global market for the U.S. distilled spirits; American whiskey accounted for approximately 80 percent of the total.
A question for thought; Can you keep a man/woman from his or her whiskey?
